Rihanna Signs Beauty Deal With MAC Cosmetics

Congrats RiRi! MAC Cosmetics will release a line exclusive designed and created by Rihanna in a deal the superstar called ‘a no-brainer!’

Her on-again, off-again Chris Brown drama notwithstanding, Rihanna is morphing into quite the fashion powerhouse. There’s her new fashion collection with British retailer River Island.
And she has landed a pretty sweet deal with MAC Cosmetics. MAC and Rihanna have collaborated on several color collections launching this year, according to WWD.
The first item out: RiRi Woo, a lipstick inspired by her favorite MAC red, Ruby Woo.

“When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind — for something legit — is MAC,” the singer told WWD. “Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to MAC.’ I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”
For MAC, it marks the first time the brand has worked with a celebrity one more than just a one-off Viva Glam product. And for Rihanna, the deal enabled her to be a makeup artist.
“I really got to play,” Rihanna told WWD. “There’s so much to choose from, and you can mix different textures with different colors and different greens in different eye shadows. I learned so much about the detail of makeup and what makes things look different. What makes it apply different is really important. Every little detail is important.”
Called the RiRi (Hearts) MAC line, the first of four collections is set to launch in May around about the same time as her Diamonds Tour, where MAC will be previewing the first collection at a pop-up shop. Of course her make-up debut includes a red lipstick (another no brainer, she even had a hit called ‘Red Lipstick) named RiRi Woo, based on her favourite existing lipstick from MAC Ruby Woo.
We’re no stranger to celebrity collaborations from MAC, but this is more. Group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc, MAC’s parent company, John Demsey said: “we always say that MAC likes to go on a date but doesn’t really want to go into a relationship. This relationship with Rihanna is a long-term one that involves the development of four distinct color initiatives.”
Congratulations RiRi.
